Lovely & Unique

  • Mood:
  • Music: Quiet
  • Weather: Cloudy & 73
  • Health: Great
My last couple weeks have included a lovely powder room & a unique re-creation of a support beam.

The powder room received a 6 layer crackle finish, including the painted base coat.  This heavily crackled finish, called Bookends, was custom created to coordinate with the home decor and a "nearby" wall treatment.

Hope to get a good picture of the whole room shorty, after the sink and toilet are installed.

The Steel beam was the traditional deep red, then painted white, then painted with "Stainless Steel" paint and then some black glaze applied to "age" the surface.

Door Done!

  • Mood:
  • Music: No music...TV
  • Weather: 92 big ones!
  • Health: Can not complain

This home's exterior was battered by a recent hail storm. The WHOLE exterior had to be replaced including the front door.

A lovely new front door was selected with a very nice mahagony exterior wood grain finish.  The inside of the door had this same finish.  Well, that finish did not look very good next to all the oak trim and furniture of this home.

Easily fixed with an oak wood grained effect!

The door is NOT quite finished, but still awaiting its protective clear coats.  The protective layer will enhance the appearance
of the graining, like polishing a stone.

Not plain paint & renewed bookcase!

  • Mood:
  • Music: Watching Netflix
  • Weather: Cloudy, Scattered Rain. Pleasant Temp
  • Health: Good health...that is really all that matters
This home had a remodeling including opening up a couple walls opening up to the adjoining room, new color theme with paint and lovely new furniture. How exciting!  The changes included adding a heavy texture in the entry way by a plasterer.  The before picture will show how the texture was not accented.  A single layer of glaze brings to life the texture and adds the extra depth and interest to the room.  The glazing, also, added more depth to the plain painted layer and complimented the new desired Tuscan theme.

The client had two bookcases.  Very nice bookcases "in their day", but did not blend well with the new Tuscan decorating theme.  The furniture was painted in a two-tone treatment, painting black and distressed much of the surfaces, but leaving the insides with the "base" wood exposed.  The "base" was glazed, also, to add more of an aged effect providing the illusion of some deeper tones in the grain and making the wood a deeper tone to blend better with the black and desired distressed effect.

  • Mood: Good...not complaining
  • Music: TV Music Channel
  • Weather: 79 and awesome morning
  • Health: Good...all good
Oh silly me! I forgot another project I did! The biggest in a while! LOLOL, so grand I forgot...geez.

Anyway, Parade of Homes 2010 - The Lodge - A "man-cave" concept! Huge "lodge" with many amenities men love!
And to grace these special entertaining things is a lovely decorative finish for the grand room and sun room walls.
The project was huge, but went very well!

For those who were able to see, I hope you enjoyed!
It was a great Parade year!

Looking Up!

  • Mood: Pleasant
  • Music: Birds and Breeze
  • Weather: Sunny, breezy 84 degrees
  • Health: Hey, did not fall off the high ladder! Its all good!
I have not been sitting around!...grin....
Recently painted and glaze a foyer over a heavy textured surface.  Followed with painting two bookcases with some black and distressing.
Well, that was after a couple great vacations....grin.

But this week, the eyes went up! Did a classy faux finish in a recessed ceiling
area over a dining table and painted the inner trim white. It turned our very sharp and added tons more interest to the previous dark area in the ceiling.

Also in the home, there was a small foyer dome looking for attention.  This dome was graced with a finish called Bella Fresco.  This finish is unique and great to do on for a
marbled-sort of effect for walls, domes, columns, tables...you name it!

Will be back later with pics from the textured foyer and the book cases!

BTW....if you happened to get out to the Kalamazoo Parade of Homes and went the THE LODGE....I did the faux finishes out there!
Hope you enjoyed!

A great product for unique uses and effects for home or business! Here the paper was installed using a asymmetric pattern.  The papers can be custom colored and applied using several effects of torn, rectangular, square, diamond, circles.  Great for columns, furniture insets and so much more!
This display can be seen at Battle Creek, MI Michigan Tile and Carpet and is for purchase there. I am ready for your installation needs!

Is That Ostrich?!

  • Mood:
  • Music: Quiet
  • Weather: Cloudy and 50 deg
  • Health:
A new, trendy, elegant look brought this previously wallpapered - brown cabinet room to the WOW factor!

This room had wallpaper. I have found doing a "Papered" finish over wallpaper usually does not go well. The faux techniques using the thin papers, such as tissue paper, will still allow the seams to be seen from the wallpaper, which is one HUGE reason wallpaper is not desired or enjoyed.  Therefore, the wallpaper was removed, though not tons of worry for removing all the remaining paste.  The wall was primed before the faux effect was started in order to lock in the paste and prime the patched areas.  YES, there was patching! Again, that enforced reasons NOT to ever go into that wallpaper world.  Even, professionally papered walls will, usually, have issues of areas of the wall being damaged during the wallpaper stripping.

Yes, the finish uses tissue paper and this finish is called OSTRICH!  Ostrich is a 5 layer finish, including the priming layer, which is elegant and has many uses.  It was great for this wall finish, but can be used as an interesting inset for furniture cabinets, a coffee table top, or maybe some columns! Just for ideas

As mention, the room had light colored stained cabinets.  These cabinets were painted red, then black and distressed...and, also, some SECRET enhancements to bring the black to a warm, aged loveliness.

You will notice the little step stool of the young ones in this home.  The painted effect of the cabinets was, also, provided to this stool for a nice compliment to the room.
